Once a month, the keen bowlers dressed in their blue and white team colours and meet to play a friendly game of bowls.

Recently, Moxon Sports Club played host to a friendly match against Bomaderry Bowling Club and Canterbury Bankstown Travelling bowlers Club.

“Anyone can join the Social Bowling Club, the only condition is that they must be a member of Canterbury League Club and a bowling member of any bowling club,” James Fowler, President of the Social Bowling Club.

“When I was 65 years old, I thought I wasn’t old enough to play bowls, but it wasn’t until I was 70 years old that I started. I love playing with the group and I enjoy the company, I wish I had started earlier. There is only one strict rule and that is everyone has to be happy and to have fun.”

The winner of the day is not chosen based on skill but on passion and how much fun they are having.

Dudley Jennings, Secretary of the Social Bowling Club is the only person who knows the winner on the day.

“We loved coming to Moxon Sports Club, the hospitality that they have showed us has been remarkable. I recommend lawn bowls for anyone regardless of age because of the fun you will have,” Charlie Francis, Bomaderry Bowling Club

The day includes a game of lawn bowls, morning tea, lunch, a raffle and lots of laughter.
